"I think I'll go with..."
You were still wondering who to go hunt with when you heard a scuffle from behind you. You turned around and suppressed a laugh as you saw Lukas- the Dragon lord of Norway- choking Matthias- the Dragon lord of Denmark- with his own tail. "We're not going to go around scaring nearby villages. We're going fishing." Lukas hissed. Matthias gulped and nodded, unable to reply because he was still being choked. You walked over to them and smiled, "You five seem like an interesting bunch. Mind if I tag along?" Matthias beamed, his smile a bit crooked, but big and genuine all the same. "Hey! We won! Hahaha! She must be attracted to my handsomeness." He gloated. Lukas shot him a glare, "We didn't win anything, stupid Dane." He growled. Tino, the polite Dragon lord of Finland, tried to break up the fight. "Now now, let's not fight." He cast a look at you, "You can ride with me if you want. Unless there's someone else you'd rather go with." His gaze floated over to the two dragons who were sitting right next to each other. You shook your head, "No, I can ride with you. I really don't care who I go with." You said, walking over to Tino's shoulder, hopping on. He had soft fur on his back, and his feathery wings made him look like an angel. When you were situated, he turned his head to look at you, "Are you all comfortable? Would you rather sit up by my head? You would be able to hold onto my horns then." You gave him a confused look, "But wouldn't that be uncomfortable for you?" He shook his head, "Oh no, I've carried many people like that."
"Oh, I forgot to mention that I'm the only dragon who's been seen by people before. I help lost or sick people and care for them, although Lukas usually puts a spell on them to make them forget any memory of me." You nodded slowly, "Oh... so I'm no different right?"
Tino smiled, his violet eyes sparkling like two stars, "You're very different!" he realized what he had just said, "Uh...In a good way! Lukas probably won't erase your memory~!" He chuckled nervously.
Arthur's voice rang out over the chatting dragons. "Alright, it seems like we are all prepared and know where we will be hunting. You are free to leave now, but be sure to return here. The meeting is not dismissed yet!"
Your (e/c) eyes widened in awe as you saw the flashes of sunlight reflect off of all those amazing and colorful scales. You forgot to breathe as you watched the dragons take off with a few beats of their wings. They all rose up into the air, and headed off towards their designated hunting spots. You turned back to Tino, who had been watching patiently. "It's quite a sight, huh?" He said, his purple eyes meeting yours. You nodded, "Yeah, I've never seen so many dragons flying at once." Matthias cut in before Tino could respond, "You should feel lucky, no human has ever seen that before! That makes you the first, (Name)!" You felt yourself blush at that huge honor-of-sorts.
"Hey! Can we please go hunting now? I'm hungry!" A British voice called out. You looked down from where sat to see the littlest dragon of the entire congregation hopping in circles by Berwalds feet. He was only the size of a horse, and he didn't have any horns or spikes anywhere. Just like Arthur. Tino sighed, a weak smile on his face. "Yes, Peter, we're going right now." Peter was the young Dragon lord of Sealand, and he didn't even reside in his own country because he would be easily spotted. Since Sealand was too small for him to build a home, he lived with the Nordic lords. Tino made sure you were ready before taking off, his wings silent as an owls'. You felt the refreshing wind blow in your face, and you held onto him tightly as the group flew towards a large lake. Peter flew close to you, his little wings beating quickly to keep up with the group, "Hey (Name)! Why did you choose to go with us?" He asked, his big blue, fawn-like eyes full of curiosity. "Well...You all looked so interesting, like a big family." You replied. Matthias spoke up, "She's attracted to hot dragons like me! I am the hottest in all the world-" Lukas smacked him with his tail, which had two large prongs on each side. "Ow! Hey! What was that for?!" The red-scaled dragon growled angrily. "For annoying me with your obnoxious bragging." Lukas replied, in that monotone tone that seemed to be his normal voice. Matthias rolled his eyes, "C'mon, let me have a bit of fun! We can't all be like you, lame-o Norge." Lukas narrowed his dull blue eyes, but flew over to be beside Emil, the Dragon lord of Iceland. "Call me big brother." He prodded. "No! I will not call you big brother!" Emil pouted loudly. "You know you want to call me that." Lukas retorted. "I do not!" Emil almost screeched. While this was going down, Matthias snuck over to the other side of you, hoping to use you and Tino as a shield against Lukas. You knew that if Lukas did want to hit him, he could easily fly over or below the Finnish dragon, but you didn't say anything. You were now over a rather large lake, surrounded by some beach and then forest. It seemed like you had arrived to your hunting spot.
"Ok, (Name), hold on tight! I'm going to dive soon." You nodded and gripped the two blue horns on the dragons head as tight as possible. A few moments passed, and then suddenly you were plummeting towards a large body of water. You bit your tongue so you wouldn't scream as the water got closer and closer. The sound of the waters' surface being broken made you hold your breath, but you never even got a few drops of water on you. You were rising now, and you saw Tino holding a few large fish. He flew over to the shore, where he gracefully landed and let you dismount off his head. He set his catches down and pushed one over to you. "You must be hungry too. After Matthias is done with his fishing we can start a fire." You had forgotten about how hungry you were until you were staring at the fish in front of you. You were tempted to just bite into it, but you new that it had to be cooked. Thankfully, Matthias swooped down next to you and set down his catches. "Matthias, we need you to start a fire for (Name) so she can cook her fish." Tino said as he collected some nearby branches and set them in a pile. Matthias smirked, "Can't humans just eat them raw?" To further his point, he threw a fish up into the air, catching it in his mouth and chewing a tiny bit before swallowing. You shivered as you heard the fishes bones snap. "Please just start the fire." Tino told him, slightly annoyed by the Danes' rudeness.
Matthias nodded, and let out a blast of fire, igniting the branches with ease. You jumped back, feeling lucky that you didn't catch fire. "That was a bit much, don't you think?" Tino asked, thankful you hadn't been burned. "Ohhh come on Tino, I started the fire didn't I?" Matthias argued. You were soon joined by Berwald and Peter, Berwald carrying a large amount of fish in one front paw and Peter proudly carrying one in his mouth. You started cooking your fish over the hot flames as the dragons quietly ate their meal. Emil was still fishing, eating the fish immediately after catching them and then fishing again. Lukas was nowhere to be found.
You looked over at the lake, only seeing Emil. You looked at Tino, "Where did Lukas go?" You asked, taking a bite of the now slightly burnt fish. Tino finished the fish he was chewing before answering. "Lukas is a very secretive person, he's probably just off eating by himself." Matthias laughed heartily, "Fine by me! Maybe I won't be choked for a whole meal this time!" You laughed a bit to- that Danes' laugh was so contagious! Still...you still wondered where that Norwegian went off to...
I peered around a tall maple tree, spotting (Name) sitting by a fire, eating fish. At least she liked fish, I disliked her a bit less now. I narrowed my eyes, my vision blurring a bit as the world became black and white. The only color I could see was the color of her soul. I looked closer, and inwardly gasped. She had the soul of a (Last name). That meant she was a...I knew it. I knew she had tainted blood. Now she's trying to trick us like her great grandfather did. I guess betrayal lies in the family.
I was so surprised by this knowledge that I forgot I was a human and walked out into the light. My sudden appearance surprised everyone. (Name) jumped and looked at me with a slight hint of fear. Maybe it was my scary aura, or maybe it was the fact that she had been caught by another so-called human. "I knew it." I said sharply, glaring at her.
(Name) looked confused and scared at my sharp tone. Tino gave me a look and mouthed 'You're half naked and she doesn't know it's you'.
Well no shit!
My eyes locked with her (e/c) ones. They were full of fear...and they were actually kind of pretty. But I didn't show any regret as I continued to rat her out. "I knew there was something off about you. You were too comfortable around dragons to be any normal person." She seemed to recognize me and stuttered, "I-I'm not a d-dragon Lukas." Psh, I know that already! "No, you're not. You're a (last name)."
Everyone gasped, except for Berwald. Peter looked around, and gasped quietly too, not knowing what was so wrong about being a (Last name). "Well...Y-yeah...My full name is (Name)(Last Name). Is there something wrong?" I snorted, "Is there something wrong? Of course there is. Your great grandfather was a dragon slayer who tricked the Dragon lord of Rome by pretending to be his friend. How could you not know?” (Name) was silent for a little bit, her eyebrows furrowed in thought. After a few moments, she snapped her fingers, “Ohh, are you talking about Elritz (Last name)?”
I nodded, wondering why she wasn't taking this seriously.
“We aren't related, that’s a different spelling of similar last names. His name is spelt (slightly altered version of your last name).”
Matthias burst out in laughter. “Åh min Gud Lukas!” He hollered, tears forming in his eyes, “You stomp out here and accuse her of being related to a dragon slayer, when they aren't even related! Oh my god this is too perfect!” He kept laughing as I sat there boiling. “Shut up Dane!” I scowled, clenching my fists.
“Awww, what’s the wittle human gonna do to me? Choke me?” Matthias sneered between laughs. I narrowed my eyes and transformed right there, swiftly wrapping his tail around himself.
“I told you to shut up.” I hissed.
After Lukas calmed down and released Matthias- finally allowing the Dane to breathe, which he did very heavily- He avoided looking at you as he turned to Tino. "If you are all finished here, we should be heading back. Arthur was pretty clear when he said the meeting was not over." His tone seemed to return to the normal monotone as his dull eyes went from Tino to you, and finally to Matthias, who was slowly regaining his breath. Tino nodded and lowered his neck so you could hop on. Once again, he asked if you were ready, and right after you said 'yes', the Finnish dragon shot up into the air, the wind from his wings putting out whatever was still burning on the fire you had built. The others followed suit, getting into their aerial position; Matthias in the front, Emil and Lukas on his left and right, with Berwald and Tino bringing up the rear. Peter usually flew close to Berwald or Tino, sometimes flying by himself in the center. The six dragons made their way back to the Valley of Gathering. Little did you know that someone had stumbled across your makeshift campsite.
"Sir, come take a look at this. It appears that someone's been here, and recently too."
A tall man with clean-cut dark brown, almost black hair and copper eyes hopped off his horse and walked over to the slightly shorter man. "What is it? Did you find something?"
"Yes, it seems that someone was burning a fire here. It seems like it just recently was extinguished."
"Hmm, you're right." The tall man's gaze floated over to where some very distinct footprints were still in the sand. "It appears they weren't alone." The shorter man noticed it to, and grinned maliciously, "So it seems that we have some lizards here again, Adon."
"Indeed, Darius." Adon's copper eyes narrowed, and he clenched his fists determinedly, "Another opportunity to continue Elritzs' legacy."
"But Adon, there are human footprints here to. They seem small, so perhaps it's a female?"
"Hmm, let's pray that the dragon has taken her captive and that she can't become one. Those types of dragons are a PAIN to find."
"Agreed. So, shall we report back to the king? He will not be pleased to know that another dragon is in his kingdom...but he needs to know." Darius pointed out, heading over to his horse. Adon nodded and mounted his horse as well, giving the site one more once-over before kicking his horse. "Yes, and then we'll send out a hunting patrol and make sure we bring the beasts' head back." Darius smiled cruelly, his own brown eyes shining with the thought of killing a dragon. This wasn't the first dragon hunt he'd been on. In fact, him and Adon were the best dragon slayers in the land, even better than Elritz (insert last name), Adon's great grandfather, who had killed a powerful dragon in an intense battle that people still talk about today. The two raced back towards the kings' fort-like castle, eager to start on another 'expedition'.
Still...despite the fact that people didn't frequently visit the area, they had left footprints and burnt wood and most likely fish bones. Any person who came across the site might notice these things and realize that there was a dragon in the area. You knew you were probably just being paranoid, but you couldn't shake that horrible feeling. The feeling that something was going to happen thanks to that.
But you knew deep down that it wasn't.
